[3/28/2003 1:28:00 AM | DONALD SESSIONS]
NASCAR makes its annual stop in Texas this week. Terry and Bobby Labonte look forward to this homecoming in their respective Chevy Monte Carlo teams. Bobby in his Interstate Batteries Bunch are rolling along nicely this season after a win at Atlanta, his sixth at the Georgia speedway. Terry, on the other hand, could really use a good finish in the top ten to get the Hendrick Motorsports Kellogg's entry out of a two year slump. For Saturdays Busch O'Reilly 300, Jason Keller earned his first pole and fourth front row start of the season with a run of 187.474 Thursday. Stanton Barrett went 186.916 to lock up his best qualifying run for the outside of the front row. Bobby Hamilton and Scott Riggs rounded out the Ford sweep of the top four spots. Brian Vickers, point leader Todd Bodine, Joe Nemechek, Mike Bliss, David Reuitemann and Randy Lajoie round out the top ten. Defending champion of the race Jeff Purvis, seriously injured in a race at Nazareth, Pa. last year is not entered. More Winston Cup and Busch news tomorrow after Winston Cup qualifying for the Samsung/Radio Shack 500.

The closest finish in NASCAR Winston Cup history occured at Darlington Raceway on Sunday, March 16, 2003. Ricky Craven from Newburgh, Maine beat Kurt Busch of Las Vegas, Nevada by .002 of a second! It was an incredible race throughout, but the finish was not for the weak of heart. It was also the 100th Winston Cup race held at the "Lady In Black". If you can believe it, Darrell Waltrip was almost speechless!
